Your forthcoming immigration medical examination at IME Clinic will consist of several components, including a chest x-ray, a physical examination, and a mandatory blood test for IME. However, only applicants who are 15 years and older are obligated to undertake the blood test, unless the panel physician recommends otherwise.
How to get blood work done?
At first the panel physician will conduct a physical examination on you, after which you will be furnished with a requisition form. It is essential to retain this document with you. You will receive a requisition form for either IMMLabs or LifeLabs, depending on which is closer to your location. Please note that you do not need to make an appointment for your blood test, as any Life Labs or IMMLabs facility will be able to accommodate you.

What happens during the blood test for IME?
At the laboratory, you will need to present your requisition form, IME number, and government-issued identification to the clinician.

The blood test procedure usually only takes a few minutes and does not require any special preparation, such as fasting.
Typically, the clinician extracts the blood sample from a vein in your arm using a needle. If more than one test is necessary, then the clinician may have to take additional blood.
If you feel anxious, it may help to look away or find a distraction.
What to expect after your blood test for IME?
After the blood test, the clinician will remove the needle, and you will need to apply gentle pressure to the punctured area to stop the bleeding. Subsequently, the clinician will place a bandage over the site. Any bruising or swelling should subside within a few days. If you experience any adverse reactions, please contact your physician immediately.
Regarding the paperwork, you do not need to take any action. The laboratory will automatically forward your blood test results to eMedical as part of your immigration application.
Please note that you are responsible for all fees associated with your immigration medical examination, which includes x-rays and bloodwork. However, refugees and asylum seekers are exempt from these charges.
